Sensei Steve is great with kids (and adults!) - nice balance of silliness vs seriousness all wrapped up in fun and respect. My son has struggled joining clubs in the past especially with no one that he knows but was keen to try this one and as slotted straight in. I’ve even dusted out my old Gi and joined in at times, nice to actively participate in a club with my son rather than just watch or leave. I had my first session here on Sunday and it was awesome — I enjoyed it way more than I expected! As someone with ADHD, I sometimes struggle with following long instructions, but after every move he checked in to make sure I understood. If I didn’t, he’d break it down into small, easy steps until I got it, which made me feel really supported and at ease. I started off doing two courses in self-defence before Christmas 2024 and loved it so much that I am now attending actual classes. I was extremely nervous at the beginning as it was well out of my comfort zone. But honestly, I needn't have worried. Sensei Steve puts you at ease immediately and the others in the classes are so friendly and welcoming. What really stands out is how professional, patient, knowledgeable, and simultaneously funny Sensei Steve is. The sessions are fun but you really are seriously learning at the same time. Do not be fooled - Sensei Steve notices everything! He is quick to help and correct when learning new moves and he is attentive to the students's needs on an emotional basis as well. I am so glad grateful to be a part of the classes. I am learning to push past my limits and my confidence has grown. I have found my safe place for me! I should add that my daughter also attends classes. My husband and I had been looking for an art form that builds self-confidence and teaches self-discipline as well. We are both so happy we found these classes for her. It has made such a difference to her self-esteem. Sensei Steve is brilliant with the kids and makes them laugh and work hard as well. I thought martial arts were about self defence and fighting and joined this club in pursuit of those goals. I am learning more about myself, pushing my limits in ways I didn't expect and achieving beyond what I have been able to do in the past. Primarily due to Sensei, but also the inclusive environment of people who made a practically adverse nerd feel comfortable and welcome. I absolutely love going to combat jujitsu with Sensi Steve. Everyone is so welcoming, friendly and patient. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. My two daughters have joined this year the classes expertly lead by sensei Steve and they LOVE it. Steve has an excellent way to bring fun to the lessons with a quick wit and he is blatantly an expert in the martial arts but also in teaching all ages and all skills. The girls have also joined the summer camp sessions and they feel that Thursdays don’t come around fast enough. The biggest positive that comes out of these sessions is the development of their spacial awareness and reaction skills. Fantastic experience we have received at the jujitsu Summer Camp with Steve! It's only been 4 weeks on Thurs 2-4pm. They have learnt locks, blocks, kicks, strikes, self defence and lots more... They have met new friends at the club, built their confidence, improved there cooperation and had Fun along the way. I love the way Steve teaches, he doesn't make the children feel embarrassed by doing the moves, and making the sounds. He gets everyone involved. He demonstrates and has very clear instructions, even us parents can do! It's very safe, My children didn't have any experience, but everyone so friendly. My boy is 10, and my little girl is 7. No matter the size, Gender, Age or strength, I recommend this club! Steve is Fantastic & we even experienced another teacher one afternoon joining and helping out, she was Fantastic also. This is an amazing club. My 14 and 12 year old children have been having a brilliant time at the Junior summer club. Steve is an amazing teacher and both children were full of smiles throughout and even the parents joined in. I see my usually reserved 14 year old daughter, growing in confidence in such a short space of time. So good that I'm thinking of trying out the upcoming women's self defence myself. They welcome all levels of fitness, age and ability and come highly recommended by both myself and children.Posted on Facebook
